Snogs and handjobs: parodies of First Kiss video emerge by @Jess_Champion

It was on Monday when I first noticed comments about the ‘First Kiss’ video cropping up all over the shop. Facebook friends gushed about true love and human nature whilst Twitterers shared it left, right and centre.

It wasn’t, however, until today when I actually gave in to the hype and had a little look-see.

If you Google ‘First Kiss’ today, you’ll see umpteen articles declaring ‘It’s a fake!’, with a particularly strong worded article in the Independent saying: “True love is dead and everything is just a cynical plot to extract your money . . .”

Honestly, I’m a bit baffled by the reaction. Yes, the video was produced for fashion brand Wren. But, as the Independent article points out – all the clues were there from the start.

If you’re so inclined, you can read more about the production in this article, in which one of the women behind the video says everything that happen is 100% real. But, I digress.

What I really want to show you are the spins offs of ‘First Kiss’ which have so quickly emerged.

First up is a parody by Frozen Yogurt brand Snog (Can you guess what it’s called?)

And this was swiftly followed by a slightly more risqué version, ‘First Handjob’, by sketch comedy group Pimms Girl.

What do you think?

With more than 40,000 and 470,000 views retrospectively, the Pimms Girl video in particular certainly gives a whole new perspective on newsjacking. (I’m sorry.)
