#AdNandos and a peri-peri clever bit of news hi-jacking by @Jess_Champion

Earlier this week Manchester United’s Adnan Januzaj hit the headlines when he ‘treated’ 18 year old student, Melissa Mckenzie, to a slap-up dinner at none other than popular chicken joint Nando’s.

As tasty as that chicken is, it perhaps comes as no surprise that Mckenzie was reported to be less than impressed with the £30,000-a-week footballer’s choice of restaurant – not helped by the fact that he turned up for their first date wearing trackie bottoms and trainers.

To add insult to injury, Januzaj asked Mckenzie to cough up for the Pay and Display, after she allegedly collected him from a street corner where his mummy had dropped him off.

Not one to waste a newsjacking opportunity, Nando’s reacted super speedily by offering to pay for the next date by way of a £50 voucher. The message, issued on twitter with the hashtag #AdNandos , read:“Hey Adnan, the second date’s on us. (P.S. Maybe ditch the trackies?)”.

This is a perfect example of a well executed newsjack which caused a flurry of social media activity and picked up a handful of decent coverage along the way.

Kudos to Nandos for their cheeky tweet and, even if I do say so myself, kudos to me for not including one ‘bird’ pun in this entire post.
